Career Opportunities: Many students majoring in Spanish will become teachers or go on to graduate school, but proficiency in a foreign language also helps majors find employment in the public and private sectors.
Expectations
of Transfer Students:
Four semester courses or 14 semester hours of beginning and intermediate Spanish language course work, equivalent to UGA SPAN 1001-2002, are required. Study abroad courses can be used to fulfill part or all of these prerequisites, upon permission of advisors in the department.
Special Requirements: A minimum grade of "C" (2.0) is required in course work for this major.

No student may receive credit for any course which is a prerequisite to a course for which college credit has already been received. Exceptions may be made only by the head of the department.

Certain courses in the Department of Romance Languages are not open to native speakers of that language. A native speaker is defined as a person who graduated from a secondary school in which the language of instruction was French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish.
Scholarships: An undergraduate study abroad prize in the amount of $500 is awarded annually to a student majoring in any of the degree programs in the department of Romance Languages. For more information, contact Dr. Noel Fallows, (706) 542-3121, nfallows@uga.edu.
Study Abroad: The Department of Romance Languages encourages all students to participate in an accredited study abroad program for an academic year, a semester, or the summer. Prior departmental approval is required for credit. Contact the Office of International Education (542-7903) for information about programs. Check with the department for the maximum number of hours that will count for a major or minor.
