Additional Fees: Voluntary membership in the Insurance Society, Gamma Iota Sigma, and inclusion in the resume book involves a small fee.
Scholarships: The Insurance Society and Gamma Iota Sigma sponsor scholarships each semester.
Internships: Internships may be done for credit and are encouraged.
Student Organizations: All students are strongly encouraged to join the Insurance Society as soon as they become departmental majors. Membership in the Society not only makes the student eligible for scholarship awards, but also entitles the student to free attendance at the Careers Day program and the Spring Awards Banquet. In addition, only members of the Insurance Society are entitled to submit resumes for inclusion in the departmental resume book.

To join the Insurance Society, complete an application available in 206 Brooks and give the departmental secretary (who is also in 206 Brooks) a check for dues (currently $35), payable to the Insurance Society. Because the dues payment is a one-time only fee, it is advantageous to join the Society as early in a student's college career as possible. Questions about the Insurance Society should be directed to the organization's faculty advisor, Dr. Charles Lankau (206 Brooks Hall) at clankau@terry.uga.edu.

Gamma Iota Sigma is an honorary fraternity with selective membership criteria. To join Gamma Iota Sigma, a student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average for all coursework. In addition to the recognition associated with membership in an honorary organization, students who join Gamma Iota Sigma have opportunities for extensive contact and interaction with industry representatives, through the meetings and special conferences sponsored by the fraternity, and through the services offered through the Gamma Iota Sigma Grand Chapter.

Gamma Iota Sigma also is responsible for the Intern-for-a-Day program. This program gives students the opportunity to visit companies for a day to see their risk management or insurance related operations. Use the student signup form to submit your application for the current Intern-for-a-Day program

Currently, dues for Gamma Iota Sigma are $40. Membership applications can be obtained in 206 Brooks; students who are accepted for membership must make a one-time dues payment in addition to Insurance Society dues. For additional details about the fraternity, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Steven Pottier (297 Brooks) at SPOTTIER@terry.uga.edu. http://www.terry.uga.edu/insurance/gis.html
